Casa Roma has been created from part of the oldest country house surrounded by a walled garden with swimming pool

 The house lies in the unspoilt tranquil village of Acequias in the Valley of Lecrin (or the Vale of happiness) - one of the least developed valleys in Andalucia, where the donkey remains a familiar means of transport

Acequias is a small, unspoilt and tranquil village Andalusian village with a population of around 180 people in the little-known but spectacularly beautiful Valley of Lecrin in the far south of Spain. Known to the Moors as the Vale of Happiness, the Valley is not far from Granada and a drive from the sea.

Casa Roma has been lovingly restored to provide a traditional Andalusian house. The accommodation comprises of:
Ground floor:
Kitchen with gas cooker, washing machine and gas hot water
Open plan lounge with wood burning stove
First floor:
Double bedroom with balcony
Twin bedroom
Bathroom with bath/shower, bidet, toilet

In addition, This Valley of Lecrin house has a private Roof Terrace affording fine views. It also benefits from a private swimming pool (shared with five other units within the old Casa Tia Maria house), which is available from Easter.

The weekly rates for Casa Roma are:

Prices shown are UK Pounds per week. Firewood has to be purchased from the manager for all bookings before the end of May Any cancellation must be notified to us in writing by the person who has contracted the holiday. If such notification is received more than 30 days before the departure only the deposit will be retained by us.

The owners do not at present arrange flights or car hire. However, based on the pooled knowledge we can point you in the right direction so you will be able to benefit from the best deals. 		Some journey times:
Malaga Airport 11/2 hours
The sea (Costa Tropical) 30 minutes
Granada 20 minutes
The Alpujarras 30 minutes
The international ski resort Sol y Nieve 45 minutes

This to do in the Valley of Lecrin

There are plenty of things to do around the Valley of Lecrin...

Visit the pretty villages just a few minutes’ drive away with exotic names such as Melegis and Restabal. The villages in the Valley make a pleasant excursion and most have bars and restaurants.

Granada, an ancient Moorish city famous for its history, architecture and the extraordinary Alhambra Palace and Gardens, is just 30 minutes away

A half-hour’s drive to the east lies the Alpujarras – a unique mountainous area of ancient hill villages with cube-like whitewashed houses which resemble the Berber settlements found in North Africa

Drive south for 30 minutes to the Costa Del Tropical, which has been unspoilt by package tourism. Salobrena, the nearest beach to the Valley of Lecrin is a popular holiday resort for Spaniards.
Skiing at Sol y Nieve
Enjoy the superb skiing facilities at Sol y Nieve, the international ski resort high in the Sierras that is 90 minutes drive from Acequias. Sol y Nieve was the location for the 1999 Winter Olympics.

Visit Andalusian cities such as Seville, the capital of Andalucia, and Cordoba famous for its mosque dating from the 8th Century

Horse Riding in Niguelas
There is a riding stables in Niguelas where you can hire horses by the hour, this is an excellent way of exploring the area without the effort of walking Contact Alan Hartwell on (0034) 958 777 501 		There are two golf courses in the area, an 18 hole course in Armilla about 15 miles away and a 9 hole course on the beach near Salobrena

There’s only one way to shop in Acequias – by hailing one of the local vans which pass through the village daily laden with prawns, peaches, tomatoes, bread and even live chickens. The neighbouring village of Nigüelas offers a supermarket, shops, a market on Mondays and a fish market Tuesday to Fridays. The local town of Durcal (10 minutes’ drive) has shops and banks while Granada (30 minutes) is one of Spain’s most fashionable cities.

Walking in the Alpujarras
The area is ideal for anyone wishing to hike or simply walk. The GR7 long distance footpath runs up the hill behind the village and then onto Lanjaron. There are countless paths and tracks that run through woods, forests and beside streams

Pura Vida is a cultural and activity company run by Bob and Githa in Niguelas. They can organise a wide range of activities for you including Rock climbing canoeing, skiing, fishing, paragliding and four wheel drive tours in the mountains.
