Spain's sunny southeastern coast, stretching from Benidorm to Denia. Beaches of note are: Denia 12 miles of Blue Flag beaches and small, beautiful coves, the best being Las Marines and Marineta Cassiana cove. Alicante La Playa de San Juan has nearly 5 miles of golden sand with easy access. La Albufereta, which is protected by the Serra Grossa headland, offers seclusion and privacy. Benidorm having 5 miles of sandy beaches curve gently away from both sides of Benidorm's Old Quarter headland. East of the town is Playa de Levante, and to the west is Playa de Poniente. Calpe is a pretty, sandy beach having the 350m Penon de Ifach rock face which juts out of the sea opposite the holiday town of Calpe. Moraira: Sandy beaches like Plagetes and El Portet alternate with private rocky coves. L'Andrago, Punta Estrella and La Cala are more quiet beaches. For villa accomodation in Moraira, Click Here. or drive between the Vinalopó castles and see the sunset from
Altea overlooking the Sierra Bernia. Best time to go: For summer sun (30 °C) but holiday hoards visit July and August. For cooler temperatures and quieter times, visit in off-peak seasons (temps rarely drop below 18 °C in winter) Places of Interest: Isla
de Tabarca: A short boat trip off the coast of Alicante is the small
and tranquil Isla de Tabarca. Visitors can snorkel or take a
glass-bottomed boat in the national marine park's crystal clear waters,
or just sunbathe on the charming little beach. Once a hideaway for
pirates, the spot is now home to fish restaurants, fortifications, San
Jose Castle and a small, local population.Aqualandia, Benidorm: Offers delightful surroundings and all the fun a multitude of water rides can offer. This is a modern water park, with trained staff and excellent facilities, including picnic areas and a variety of restaurants. There are lawns and shaded areas for when you need a break from the sun and the many slides and chutes are surrounded by foliage. Attractions include Niagara, with its beach, caves and calm waters, and the enormous Atlantic Surf pool, which comes complete with waves and is surrounded by the soft circular current of the Amazonas. The Laguna has springboards, rings and nets and Adventureland is designed especially for young children. For more adventurous visitors there are plenty of exciting rides including Black Hole, Rapids, Kamikaze, Zig Zag, Pistas Blandas, Big Bang (the highest chute in Europe) and the newest ride, Splash - a multi-track water jump slide. |

Santa Bárbara Castle Alicante:
The Castillo de Santa Bárbara, originally built to protect Alicante
and virtually surrounded by sea, remains a major landmark in the city,
offering panoramic views. Its foundations date back to the 11th century,
and remains have been found here from the Romans and Moors, but most of
the building was constructed from the 14th-16th centuries. As well as the
Torre de Homenaje (keep), the Engineers' Park and the Philip II Room, the
castle has a museum with a permanent collection of sculptures, mostly
busts of famous faces in Spanish history.(Closed Mondays)
Terra Mitica, Benidorm: Offers the chance to explore ancient
Mediterranean civilisations through themed rides, shows, restaurants and
shops extending over a million square metres. Slide down the waterfalls of
the Nile in ancient Egypt or witness the fury of the Triton and the wrath
of the Minotaur in Greece. Ancient Rome's top attraction is the Magnus
Colossus ride, the largest wooden roller-coaster on the Mediterranean.
Dénia Castle: Perched on the hill, the castle is one of the
main attractions of this historic and elegant seaside town. One of the
best aspects of the castle is the splendid view from the top - over Dénia,
the harbour, the sea and the surrounding mountains. A temple built to
honour the Goddess Diana once stood on the same spot. The castle is set in
a lush park and include three impressive towers, Moorish remnants and an
archaeological museum where you can discover more about local history.
The Sierra Helada: All that separates Altea from Benidorm's party
crowds, but this hilltop fishing village offers sea views, peace and
serenity. Visitors can stroll cobblestone streets past whitewashed houses,
watch the fish unloaded daily at the busy harbour, relax on the pebbled
beaches and shop at Tuesday's seaside market. The best views are from the
Plaza de Nuestra Senora del Consuelo, with its distinctive, blue-tiled
roof.

The airport is serviced by bus and taxi service. Buses to the town centre
depart from outside the airport terminal and cost about 1 for the
30-minute trip. Taxis cost about 10.
