Blanes:
The Sa Paloma headland separates the modern, southern area of S'
Abanell from the much prettier old town's beaches, fishing port and
buildings. Old Blanes is a fishing village with a great coastal
tradition operating from it's square harbour.
From the ruins of the Castle of Sant Joan there are excellent views
of the town and from there one can visit the famous botanical
gardens of Mari Murtra.
There are over 600 shops around Blanes, and most of the best are in
the town centre. The weekly market takes place on Monday mornings in
the Passeig de Mar, offering clothes, souvenirs and most other small
products.
Every weekday morning, a food market is held the Passeig de Dintre
and locally caught fresh fish is auctioned in the Fish Market..

Another market, the
Municipal Market, is held in Mas Enlaire street (8:00am to 2:00pm,
Monday to Saturday and 5pm to 8:30pm on Friday and Saturday). Over
100 stalls offer various products.
Since 1906, The annual Blanes Fireworks Competition has
taken place over the last full week of July (check dates with the
Ajuntament of Blanes - see below). With teams from around the world
competing, this is probably Spain's most spectacular free display.
Each show starts at 10:30pm although the best vantage point get
taken hours before. Probably the best views are from the sea, and
most boat operators who usually offer daytime excursions sell
tickets for each competition evening.
