In the Sixties, the visiting intellectuals and hippies knew Cadaques as Spain's St Tropez, and to an extent it still remains the same. Picasso has lived here, and Salvador Dali lived in Port Lligat, close by.

With its stony and narrow beach, it is not a place for sunbathing - its a place to see and be seen, to drink and sample the delightful mainly seafood restasurants.

On top of the hill above the old town, and reached by narrow cobbled streets, is the 17th century church of Santa Maria, with its magnificent baroque altar.

In the Old Quarter there are a number of galleries and museums. Two prominent galleries are the Centre d'Art Perrot-Moore and Museu de Cadaques . You are not only reminded of Dali in the museums and gift shops - look for the statue on the sea front and tributes to the artist in the facades of various hotels and othe buildings.

The quality of the food offered in the town's restaurants (particularly on the western side of the sea front) is superb!
