El Masnou is situated on the Maresme coast in Catalonia, 12miles (20km) east of Barcelona.

The town has a population of approximately 22,000, many using it to commute into Barcelona, but it has retained its links with the sea. A fish farm was established in 2000 and companies linked to sailing and shipbuilding continue to operate successfully. The marina was built in 1972 and remodelled in 1992. Water sports are important for the town. Water sports can be practised at Ocata Vent Club and the Yacht Club El Masnou. Members of the latter include Olympic medalists.

The house of the Marquis, located away from the centre in Joan Carles I Avenue, is an interesting building featuring two octagonal-floor towers.

Among other fine buildings are The Charitable home, Sant Pere church, Ca n’Humet, the CEIP Ocata and the Masnou town hall.

There are three specialist museums, covering sailing, mining and pharmacy. and six public parks.

El Masnou beach is well known for its calm waters, fine golden sand and the high quality of the water. The beach has a car park, showers, esplanade, sports circuit, stalls, and access to the marina.
