Palamos Palamos Palamos Palamos

Palamos:

.
With a history dating back 3,000 years, Palamos has evolved into being the third largest port town on the Costa Brava, after Barcelona and Tarragona. During this growth, it has not made too many concessions to visitors and second-home property owners.

The Old Town is centred on the wide projection of Moli Point with the fishing port to the west and the leisure marina to the east. Daily fish auctions take place at the old port.

PalamosThe delight of Palamos is the way the town has developed in an orderly and relatively compact fashion and many of the coves and bays either side of the Platja Gran main beach are only accessible by foot or boat. At these places, such as Cala S'Alger, the only buildings are the old, traditional fishermen's cottages which have been tastefully and authentically restored by their owners.

La Fosca is a long beach, separated by La Fosca Rock. This is a popular venue for Gerona families.

Cala Castell is a wide, sandy expanse with no buildings. For years, developers and conservators have battled over planning applications, all of which has so far been rejected by the environmentally aware Palamos Ajuntament.

Events of particular note taking place in Palamos are:

The Festa Major takes place over the week around Sant Joan day (24th June). This includes a procession headed by 'gegants' (huge effigies of King Pere el Gran and Queen Constanca de Sicilia); plus fireworks, sardana dancing and live music on the promenade.

The 'Christmas Race' is an annual Regatta held in the bay but close to the shoreline.

This is an area of mainly privately-owned second home villas and apartments but there are a few good Palamos hotels. See the GoogleAds and Links on this page for details.
