Sant Pere Pescador tourist information

Over 4 miles of sandy beach The town is inland from the coast

Sant Pere Pescador offers all type of lodging, with Camping being the most prevalent accommodations - there are more than a dozen camping sites which are mostly adjacent to the beach. However 2km inland in the town of Sant Pere Pescador on the meandering River Fluvià, there are many small hotels, pensions and self catering properties as a more comfortable alternative. With a four-mile long sandy beach (''The Dunes'') there is always plenty of room. With it's fields of apple trees behind, Sant Pere Pescador beach is considered to be one of the finest bays in the Spanish Mediterranean.

The sea is a mecca for water-sports enthusiasts and the moderate winds make the gulf ideal for wind surfing - it was used for the 2nd round of the Windsurfing World Cup in 2010. Both beach and the banks of the Fluvià are also a favourite with Anglers.

The area is ideal for walkers, runners, cyclists and bird watchers, Tennis and horse riding are available nearby.

History:

First reference to Sant Pere Pescador dates back to 974AD when it was a possession of the St. Pere de Rodes monastery, forming part of the county of Empúries. The castle of Sant Pere from the 16th century is the most important medieval building of the locality.

With the drying out of the coastal marshy areas during the 17th and 18th centuries, there was a considerable increase in population. The economy has been traditionally based on agriculture and fishing, and in the last several years also on tourism.
